Let’s Talk About Webpage Domain Name Registration Reasons and Services

First and foremost is that the Internet is not pass?nd experiencing a downward trend. The fact is its still growing at an astounding daily rate. Most people modern day are computer savvy and a very large majority now actually research a product or information online before making a decision to purchase. If you’re thinking about starting or expanding a business opportunity on the Internet the time is right. The first step is to register your business name, even before you complete building your a website.

Some of the most basic and understood reasons for wanting to register an independent domain name are as follows;

1. Unique identity. Many search engines will no longer list redundant affiliate Websites as they see them all as simply the same Website which would inundate and clutter their directory. Additionally, Internet surfers are not looking for replicated sites and would search using a service that provides the best and most varying information for a customer’s valuable time. With a personal domain name however, you get Websites listed in search engines, increased exposure and subsequently generate more free traffic and sales for the site you work so hard to put up in the forefront.

2. Professionalism. Customers seek out professional companies offering quality products and services. A personal domain offers and presents a professional image, prestige, and invaluable credibility. A personal domain allows the webmaster to customize, add, alter, include or delete and present their products and services in the manner they specifically choose.

3. Another words, Control. The Webmaster (you) have complete control as to what your site looks like and what information it contains.

4. Short, sweet address. Instead of having to advertise long, hard-to-remember URLs, you, can create an easy-to-remember domain name (e.g. www.MyBusiness.com). From there, building a Website with links to your Gateway(s) or, in the case of affiliate sites you wish to promote is a simple matter. You can easily set a personal domain to automatically redirect (referred to as “URL forwarding”) to a favorite Gateway or any other site. For example, you could advertise a name like www.OurBusiness.com, but when your prospects enter that URL, they’ll be automatically be redirected to the Gateway of your choosing.

5. A Permanent address. With a personal domain, you and your family or business can have permanent, lifetime e-mail addresses that you’ll never have to change. Likewise, you’ll be able to create exactly the e-mail addresses you want (e.g. YourFirstName@YourDomain.com, Info@YourDomain.com, MyBusiness.com, Support@YourDomain.com, etc.).

Like everything, not all similar services and products are created equally. You do in fact get what you pay for. Domain registrations can go from $1.99 up to and exceed $30 annually. Check the fine print and be sure you know exactly the benefits each registrar has to offer. There is some pretty common ground out there among the competition.

Some offer you hosting as well (a place to park your Webpage). Web hosting packages include storage, email accounts, domain and more services to consider for your complete business needs! Some sell you a domain name at a highly affordable rate but you might just be sacrificing the ability to transfer your new domain name to another hosting service so again, read the small print if you have other plans and services already in place.

Many domain services allow you to keep your contact information updated easily by using their Domain Management System. You will also be able to renew your domain name and update the Domain Name Servers (DNS information). By using your unique username and password established when you registered the domain name with their company.

The domain registrar that I personally use has some unusual features such as Word Wizard which allows me to use the name of a major city or state as part of a domain name to make it memorable. The Word Wizard combines my keyword with either category to create a domain name. Then to there is a function called Domain Twist where if you are having trouble coming up with an available name, the Domain Twist takes words and gives them a twirl to come up with variations of the original name. A function that I particularly like is in an instance where if you already own a domain name that you registered using another registrar you can save money by taking advantage of their low transfer price. An added benefit to transferring your domain to the service I use is that they will also add one year to the original registration term you had with the company you are transferring you domain name from.

They also let me search and register a maximum of 30 domains at one time and register variations of my primary domain names to avoid confusion and copycat sites. Best of all now that we all deal with international customers (and I have personally not found it anywhere else) is the ability to create domain names in Korean, Japanese, traditional and simplified Chinese characters. This function means the name you create will work just like any English-character name in that you can enter it into your browser and be taken to the corresponding website.

So, in a nut shell we talked about the advantages of registering a personal domain name and covered some limited information about the services domain registers offer. Most importantly, we addressed some unique features offered by the domain registrar I’m thrilled to be associated with and just had to share. You can find out more about my domain service that I’m excited about by visiting the link I placed in the resource box following this article. But in conclusion I’ll say for the third time, read the fine print to ensure they offer you everything you need as well.

Server Security- Understanding the Reasons with Possible Error Rectifying Measures

Server security has become vulnerable to the threats in the web environment. Hackers are on the lookout for the web server security breach to enter malicious software that gets installed automatically. It is important to look into the server security issues and provide solutions for optimum server security as it is the backbone of a website and making server security less vulnerable which is our prime responsibility only if we want to flourish without fail in the World Wide Web. There is a need to take heed of the possibilities of a hacking process that poses danger on the server security.

Web applications developed to ease of development and testing procedures offer privileges with no such restrictions and such privileges done on live production server poses a great threat for mischievous users to access it and hack it instantly and harm the server security. Similarly, the privileges on the file and network services by means of the service software can induce a malicious user to access sensitive areas like the website and its database, the web application files, backend data etc,  and create a server security breach issue. It is therefore wise on the part of the web master to provide least privileges for utmost server security.

User accounts can also keep certain server security holes as open access for hackers to barge in to pose a threat over the server security. The default user accounts when not in use should be deactivated or other wise it can pose a threat over server security. The names for the administrative accounts should be changed and not to be given to other users so as to guarantee complete server security. Correct authentication and privileges solves half of the problem and server security is guaranteed.

There is the need to get specialized in current security trends on the Internet; gaining experience to enable us to identify potential threats that might bring down your Internet hosts. There are full security auditing services offered for all UNIX-like operating systems (such as Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris etc.) and for all other Internet services. The security auditing should include within itself 24/7 live support, scanners for threat identification and terminating server security threats and errors from its root, periodical check, performance optimization and systematic troubleshooting tactics in case of grievous error occurrences. The scanners installed in the system should scan the web applications and perform advanced server security checks against the open ports and network services as well. The next best thing is also to check which ports are open or not by accessing your ISP Configuration Portscanner and can open only the ports you need for your services.

The expert team performing server security checks should have the ability to customize audits by controlling access to remote systems, comprehensive reporting facilities must be catered in order to ascertain open IP ports and network weaknesses, behavior of port scans, flexibility to schedule audits, give suggestions on newer server security measures implemented for ultimate server security. What more? Many websites offer security seals that perform standard and advanced audits to ensure proper server security making it less hacking prone.

Five Reasons to Choose Unix Hosting

Though Red Hat Linux and Microsoft Windows are currently prevalent on the market, Unix is making a comeback as a viable web hosting solution.  The platform offers all the power and stability of Linux at a price that is often considerably cheaper than Windows.  Many web hosting operations are currently run on Unix-based systems that range from Mac OS X to FreeBSD.  While these platforms are great alternatives, this article will give you five reasons why Unix itself makes a great choice for your hosting needs.

1.) Tried and Tested

Unix is arguably the most dependable operating system for the network server and web hosting environment.  The platform has thrived for more than 30 years and has been tightly integrated with the internet since its inception.  Although other systems have received worthy improvements over the years, Unix is a time-tested platform, offering the power and flexibility needed to meet a wide range of hosting needs.

2.) Unrivaled Stability and Security

During its tenor in the hosting industry, Unix has proven to be notably faster than other operating systems.  It also has a reputation for having the ability to create the most secure hosting environment imaginable.  These qualities have made it a mainstay in the world of corporate business and e-commerce.  Perhaps the greatest benefit Unix offers is its high level of stability and performance.  Unrivaled processing power and a rock-solid core makes it an ideal choice for simple web pages and complex applications alike.

3.) Unmatched Reliability

While Microsoft Windows offers a graphical icon-based interface for added simplicity, Unix has no GUI at all.  This dramatically reduces overhead and allows the system to dedicate the full power of the hardware to quickly and efficiently serve web pages when they are requested.  Even in a shared hosting environment, Unix is virtually impervious to server crashes or any types of faults caused by administrative errors dues to its user-level permission structure.  When used as a platform, it can help create a fault-tolerant web server with the ability to prevent potentially damaging processes, thus enabling your website to continuously run smoothly.

4.) Extremely Compatible

Being a veteran server operating system, the Unix platform is largely supported by software developers and vendors.  The software integrates seamlessly with Apache, PHP, Perl, MySQL and other web technologies commonly used with Linux.  It also offers full support for Microsoft FrontPage, a web design and management tool that was once only available in Windows-based hosting plans.  Thanks to compatibility enhancements, FrontPage can now run flawless on both Windows and Unix servers alike.

5.) Affordable and Easy to Use

Several have the misconception that Unix is an open-source operating system.  This is not true.  In fact, its source code is under license with numerous vendors and much of the core remains proprietary.  However, Unix hosting still tends to be affordable because of its integration with free and low-cost open-source products.  And while naturally a more complex system, this platform is just as user-friendly in the typical shared hosting environment as Windows or Linux.  Therefore,  it does not matter if you are an inexperienced webmaster or a novice, Unix hosting can offer all the power or simplicity you need to succeed with a website.

7 Reasons Not to Use Free Web Hosting

If you own your own company and want to have a presence on the web, free web hosting isn’t the option for you. Free web hosting is perfect for personal websites, or even smaller organisations or endeavours, but for any company which wants to be seen as respectable and professional, paying for web hosting services is a small price to pay.

1. You won’t have your own domain name. If your business aims to be taken seriously, it’s crucial that you have a website with your own domain name to make it easy for people to find you.
2. Your bandwidth and web space will be limited. Most basic websites would be fine on a free hosting service, but any website that requires moving images or videos will almost always need a paid hosting package.
3. Your website will be littered with third party advertisements. This is because your service is free, and the provider has to earn money somehow.
4. You won’t have access to web-building tools. Unless you want your site to blend into the background with all the others, web-building tools are crucial to build your own image and increase brand awareness.
5. You won’t have dedicated technical support. With a paid web hosting provider, you are guaranteed to have access to a support line when something goes wrong. If this happens with a free web host, it’s more likely that you’ll end up waiting days for a response and not even be able to speak to a human.
6. You won’t have any credibility. Free web hosting service providers are not obligated to obey to any moral or social ethics, and so your site might end up using the same host as a seedy website that you’d rather not be associated with.
7. You may be forced to generate traffic. Some of the worst free web hosting services will dump your site if it isn’t pulling in enough visitors, because whilst they don’t answer to you, they do answer to third party companies who are paying to advertise on your site.
